New Music Friday

Well, it’s Friday in the middle of July which means a TON of new music was released today. Most notably dropping music today is Beyoncé, Nas, Maxo Kream, The Cool Kids and Alchemist, Willow Smith, and Shwayze (yes, that Shwayze).

First things first, Queen B released an album for the Lion King movie that was also released today. The album features Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino (and also Donald Glover), Pharrell, SAINt JHN, Wiz Kid, Major Lazer, Seth Rogan, Billy “On The Street” Eichner, Tierra Whack, 070 Shake, Jessie Reyez, and many more including interludes from James Earl Jones (yes, that James Earl Jones). Now THAT’S a lineup full of legends. I can’t wait to complain about how the new Lion King movie has the same exact plot as the old Lion King movie even though I can’t remember any of the old movie because I haven’t seen it in a solid 20 years. Good ‘ole freedom of speech allowing me to say stupid things without consequence ’til the day I die. ‘Murica.

Next up, we got the other first ballot hall of famer on the list, Nasir Jones. Fresh off getting pushed to the background for some weird ass Drake/Pusha T beef, the ex-G.O.O.D Music artist returns with The Lost Tapes 2. There’s way too much to go through with this album that a simple blog can handle, so just listen to the album all the way through and support a living legend. And then listen to it all the way through another 20 times because you’re surely going to miss something the first 20 times.

If you haven’t heard of Maxo Kream, you’re missing out on one of the hottest rappers out right now. Dudes been putting in work for years now and it’s finally starting to pay off getting national recognition in the past year or so. On Brandon Banks, Brandon Banks Jr. gets features from Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion, ScHoolboy Q, A$AP Ferg, and KCG Josh.

The Cool Kids are back with a three-song EP fully produced by Alan the Chemist aka Alchemist. Back in the day, The Cool Kids were steady releasing groovy ass music and setting trends without anybody really knowing about it. Unfortunately for them, they apparently signed a bad record deal and protested it by not releasing any new music under The Cool Kids moniker for almost a decade. Both Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks continued to release music as individual artists, then to everyone’s surprise in 2017, The Cool Kids returned by releasing Special Edition Grandmaster Deluxe. They’ve released some music here and there since and now The Cool Kids give us another little trip down Nostalgia Lane with Layups.

Speaking of Nostalgia Lane, Shwayze also released some new music today. If you’re on your way to the beach with some Carona and limes but aren’t sure what music you’re going to play while you’re there, fret not my friends, because Shwayze is here to save the day once again. I honestly haven’t listened to the album yet but I mean how much different can it really be from everything else Shwayze has ever released? Sound off in the comments on what you think of the album. I would love to hear what you think.

I find that the music from Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s kids is usually hit or miss for most people. Well for me, both the Smith kids are hits. It’s probably because both of them probably smoke a shit ton of weed and are super hippy, like myself, but I love almost everything they do… almost. I could definitely do without some of the screaming Jaden does on some of his tracks, but that’s neither here not there. What is here, is Willow’s new album/EP/whatever the fuck WILLOW.

Hope you like all the new music suggestions. If not, then go fuck yourself.
