“If you’re 25 and under, I truely believe Kid Cudi saved your life.” – Pete Davidson, Oct. 2016.
If you don’t know about Red Table Talk, it’s a talk show (obviously) on Facebook hosted by Jada Pinkett-Smith, her daughter Willow Smith, and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones. Each week they invite a different guest to have open conversations about tough subjects.
This week Scott Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi, stopped by to talk about his continuing struggle with his own mental health. Cudi has been honest and open about his mental health struggles in his music and has garnered a HUGE following since his debut album Day ‘N’ Nite. People who suffer from depression, anxiety, and the like have often revered Cudi as not only a legend for his music but also a hero.
Cudi has an entire generation able to relate to him through his music because he is so open and honest about his struggles. People can relate to it and also get a different perspective on some of the struggles they themselves are going through.
This is why I enjoy and appreciate Red Table Talk so much. Here are these MEGA-celebrities who, week after week, talk about struggles that everyday people go through in a relatable way and in a way that the viewers can gain an understanding about things that they may also be going through.
If we had more shows like this and more people speaking out on tough subjects I think society would benefit greatly, especially in the Internet age.
